What are the best kitchen cabinets to buy?

When you are planning to renovate your kitchen or buy kitchen cabinets, consider factors like size, layout, and design. A little research before purchasing will save you time and money. You can research through manufacturers, online guides, books, retail websites and store displays.

Types of cabinets:

There are three cabinet types; stock, semi-custom and custom.

Stock cabinets: These cabinets are usually sold at home centers pre-assembled. Stock cabinets are limited in color and design.

Semi-custom kitchen cabinets: This type is more precise and well designed as compared to stock cabinets. They offer more style options.

Custom cabinets: Custom cabinets added more features, but they are expensive.

Keep in mind the construction and material type as well. Standard base cabinets are 24” deep and 36” tall. On some semi-custom and custom type, depth may be increased up to 27 inches.  Plan according to your budget and the look you want for your kitchen. Choose the best type because the style you pick is complimentary for the rest of your home décor.

Style:

Framed or Frameless Style:

Framed and trimmed kitchen cabinets are made of a box and face frame, to which doors and drawers attach. Frameless cabinets are also known as a European style. This style skips face frame and drawers directly attach them. The look is more contemporary, but lacks firmness.

In the past, faced frame approach was used. Later newer design lends them towards for the frameless method. Stock, semi-custom and custom cabinets are available in both frameless and face framed construction.

Cabinetry can transform the space. You will find the variety in style, design, type including material such as wood, metal, thermo foil, laminates and ego friendly material.

Wood cabinets:

Wood cabinets adhered to plywood and particleboard. Semi-custom and custom offers a variety of natural, stained and paint finishes. Cabinets can be repainted to give a new look. Moreover scratches can be easily repaired. Stains can be cleaned by using dishwashing soap and warm water. Moisture may wrap the solid wood slab doors.

Laminate cabinets:

Laminate cabinets composed of paper and plastic layers bonded to plywood and furniture grade particle board. Most stock, laminate are white and ivory, the color range is available in semi-custom and custom line with granular, glossy or matte. Laminate is affordable and durable. Resist stains and dings. Deep cuts and cracks are irreparable.

Thermo foil cabinets:

These cabinets are available in a variety of shapes and designs. Thermo foil cabinets are created by heating vinyl, and then mold it over medium density fiberboard. These cabinets are inexpensive and available in lots of patterns. The coating on thermo foil can be separated when exposed to heat.

Eco friendly cabinets:

Ego friendly cabinets are made from reclaimed, renewable and recycled materials. The deep green style is available in semi-custom and custom line. These are crafted from bamboo, salvaged wood, wheat board and leather scraps. These cabinets are much expensive.
